Reading in the Car

Day Ninety-six: Today as I drove up to VA for church with Ariel, I gave her some books to "read" while we rode. I don't know why I haven't done this before, but I'm glad I finally did. She interacted with these books differently than she does at home. Maybe because she has limited mobility...or rather no mobility in her car seat, so she can't really get distracted. At home she looks at book and brings books to me to read, but she doesn't pretend to read them much at all. In the car, she did.

I looked back and she was turning pages, talking to pages, and pointing things out. She was reading her books all by herself. She was having a lot of fun doing it. She read three books and cried when I took one away. It was really sweet. I was so proud of her. She will definitely be doing more reading on our long trips.

I love watching her grow and learn new things. LOVE IT. It is the most amazing thing I have ever been a part of. This was particularly special because it is a sign that she is learning to love reading.

Thank you, God, for books and the ability to read. Thank you for Ariel's growth in this area. Thanks for giving me glimpses that things are happening that I'm not aware of...showing me that all the reading we do it producing results. We've had a lot of those glimpses over the last month, especially in terms of reading. Thank you for our car rides that will give her (lots of) opportunities to practice.

What's this about? I decided on my birthday to make a commitment to being intentionally thankful. I challenged myself to post one thing I am thankful for everyday this year.
