Day Forty-four: In our house, we love sleep. I haven't always loved it so, but it is growing on me. Jason especially likes to sleep in the mornings. He rarely goes to sleep before 2 am, so this kinda makes sense. I guess most people would say he is a night person and not a morning person.
This has bothered me in the past...and I'm sure at some point it will bother me again, but not as much lately. I am a morning person and definitely not a night person. I tend to be most productive and energized in the morning. I've always been this way. Even in high school, I used to get up at 4 am occasionally to finish projects rather than staying up late at night. It worked for me.
Anyhow, it seems our whole family has adapted to Daddy being a night person. We're all well rested though. He still stays up late and sleeps in. I end up staying up a little later than I'd like and sleep in a little later than I'd like - getting up between 7 and 8 most days. Ariel even stays up a little later and wakes up a little later than she could. She's in bed around 8:30 usually and up around 9.
I've come to appreciate this style of sleeping because I get my morning time. I usually have 1-2 hours of productive, relaxing time in the morning. I cuddle with a dog. I read my Bible, check facebook, get caught up with google reader, update on here...computer stuff without any little hands swiping at the screen on my lap top. I wash dishes, start laundry, refill the humidifier, feed the dogs...sometimes I even shower. Occasionally, I eat breakfast and drink hot tea. Usually, I wait for Ariel and eat with her.
Thank you, God, for helping me to adapt. I have been wrongly judgemental at times about sleeping habits that don't suit me. Now, I've come to appreciate our differences a bit more. Thank you for moments of peace and quiet. Thank you for feelings of accomplishment that start my day in a better way. Thank you, God, for meeting me in the morning.
What's this about? I decided on my birthday to make a commitment to being intentionally thankful. I challenged myself to post one thing I am thankful for everyday this year.
