Day Seventy-seven: I think I found a regular doctor today. I haven't seen any doctor regularly since I had a pediatrician...well, I saw my ob/gyn way too regularly in 2008, but I mean a gp. Anyhow, I mentioned that I had a terrible migraine a couple weeks ago and unfortunately because I hadn't seen a doctor in so long I didn't have any medicine for it. I cannot let that happen again. My friend, Jenny, saw that I had a migraine and no doctor and recommended her doctor. I called and got an appointment for the next day. Easy peasy.
Today was my appointment. Now I have a migraine "emergency kit" as the new doctor calls it. I am quite relieved. I really appreciated his perspective on migraines. He gave me some hope that it will be years before I have another migraine and I might be the type for whom they fizzle out. Oh, what a blessing that would be. Even if I'm not, he also gave me assurance that we will find a treatment plan that works for me. He has had a few migraines, so he understood. That was reassuring as well.
I was able to talk to him about my medical history and such. I felt comfortable talking. He listened. He was personable. He isn't part of a group, so if I make an appointment I'll just see him. That's encouraging. The nurse was kind and friendly. It was a good visit. For now, I'll say I have a doctor. Yay! I feel a little more like an adult today...no, I don't really, but maybe I should? It just seems like I should have a doctor. Now I have a name I can put on forms when they ask for a "regular doctor."
Thank you, God, for the field of medicine. Thank you for research and medicines and doctors. Thank you for stitches (and stitchers) when my husband slashes his arm open on a cocktail sauce bottle. Thank you for x-rays machines (and technicians) and blood tests (and lab techs) for Ariel's "routine" screening for Beckwidth-Wiedemann Syndrome. Thank you for migraine medicines that stop and prevent. Please hold the next one off for a long time...I'd be thrilled with forever. Thank you for Jenny taking the initiative to help me find a doctor who at least gave the impression that he plans to remember me when I come in next time.
What's this about? I decided on my birthday to make a commitment to being intentionally thankful. I challenged myself to post one thing I am thankful for everyday this year.
