Fifty-nine: Sometimes I feel a little isolated where we live. No, it isn't the country or anything. There are plenty of people, but not many I have connected with on a real, lasting friendship level. However, I do have a number of friends from over the years that I am able to keep up with through facebook. It is even easier with my friends who have blogs.
Like my friend, Jennifer. We got to know each other in college and became good friends. When she graduated, she got married and moved away. We saw each other occasionally, but as life goes we saw each other less and less. Then she started a blog to share what is going on in her life. She and her husband are in the process of adopting a baby and plan on bringing home their baby in about two weeks!! I get to keep up with my friend even if it is from a distance.
There are others that I get to see more frequently, but our blogs keep us in almost day-to-day contact (or at least up to date with our happenings). My sister-in-law, Lindsey, my friend, Gloria, my friend, Jessica, soon hopefully, my friend, Angie.
I have newer friends and acquaintences that have become better friends through blogs. Honestly, the majority of our interaction has been in the blog world, but we are friends. We know each others lives, we pray for each other.
There are even a few ladies I've never met, may never meet, wouldn't necessarily recognize in public, and I'm not even sure about all their names - but they keep me sane. Because of that, I call them friends. I know about their lives, their concerns, their joys, their kids, their ideas, their hopes, their victories, their failures.
Women like Heather. She shares about living a frugal life, loving her husband, the recent birth of her son, raising her two daughters, and much more. I feel like I know her and I like her. I learn from her and I am encouraged by her.
Thank you, God, for providing a different kind of friendship for me. Thank you for the perspective and encouragement I find through the blogs I read. Thank you for the technology to connect in this way. Thank you for these women who are seeking you and sharing their lives with transparency.
What's this about? I decided on my birthday to make a commitment to being intentionally thankful. I challenged myself to post one thing I am thankful for everyday this year.
