Day Eighty-five: Yesterday, Ariel and I went up to MACU to check some things and eat lunch with Jason. It was turning into a lovely day, but when we got there it was still pretty chilly especially in the shade. This didn't seem to bother Ariel though.
As we were walking into the building along a completely shaded sidewalk, she heard a bird. It was at the top of a very tall pine tree (in the Griffin's yard - for those who know the College) and I couldn't see it. From the sound it was making, it was big bird...I'd say it was a crow, but that might not be realistic in the middle of town. I really don't know.
Anyhow, it made a really loud noise (Caw!) and Ariel stopped walking to look for it. I was cold, so I got us moving again. Then, it happened again. I didn't care about the silly bird. I was cold. Ariel had to stop again. This time she said, "hi." As she looked into the tree. Then we walked again. One more time, the bird yelled out. This time Ariel stopped and yelled "hi." We repeated this series a few more times.
We never saw the bird. It never replied to Ariel. We finally got inside. I was warm again. However, I think it was a special moment. It reminded me that everything around Ariel is very new. Birds are new, sounds are new, flowers, trees, rocks, dogs, everything is new.
And they are definitely interesting enough for her to bear a little chilliness. I guess I can bear with it too for her.
Thank you, God, for the vivid, interesting, varied world you created and gave to us. Thank you for minds that find it all so intriguing and exciting, that desire to experience, understand, and interact with it. Thank you for my mind that can reflect and redirect when I see my mistake. Thank you for spring...we are really going to have a lot of fun this year.
What's this about? I decided on my birthday to make a commitment to being intentionally thankful. I challenged myself to post one thing I am thankful for everyday this year.
