Day Ten: Today, I am thankful for the ability to learn. Yesterday, Lindsey and her family hung out with us for a while. While she was there, we put Ariel to bed and at one point I asked Ariel to give me a kiss...and she did it. She's been doing the for a while, so I thought little of it (except how special it is that she is affectionate). Lindsey commented on it though and helped me to realize the I had asked her to do something and she actually did it. I was reminded that not so long ago (and still in so many situations) she didn't do anything I asked her to do. She didn't understand, but now she does.
Oh how she has changed since the day we brought her home. She has learned so many things. It has been an amazing journey. She has learned to eat from a spoon, she has learned to drink from a cup, she has learned to recognize people, she has learned to roll then scoot then crawl then pull up then cruise and now walk, she has learned to understand words, to respond to them, to speak them, she has learned to play, she has learned that she likes some things and does not like others and how to communicate that to me...to mention a few things. She is amazing. Yet, she isn't (completely) unique. All of us learn all the time. It's how we survive in many ways. It also opens millions of doors in life. Learning is amazing and we can learn because God made us that way.
Thank you, God, for the way our brains work. It is an amazing process to learn. I can know You better because I learn and I can choose to live for You as a result. Thank you God for creating me (and all of us) in such a way that we can choose You.
