28 Days of Service, Progress Report

How's it going? I think the challenge is definitely serving its purpose. Serving has been on my mind daily, typically all day. That is good. Unfortunately, however, I have not followed through daily. I'm disappointed in myself for this. I have done multiple things some days though, so I don't feel too terrible. It's the spirit of the challenge that is important to me - keeping service to others on my mind, cultivating a lasting spirit of generousity, and actually following through with intentional acts of service on a regular basis.

For the sake of accountability (and to assist my memory if we look back), these are some of the things we've done for the challenge:
Visited 'click to give' sites
Gave $10 gift certificates using Restaurant.com's feed it forward program by email and facebook
Baked and delivered cookies for our neighbor
Giving our (barely used) formula to friend with a baby
Made a grocery store run on Thanksgiving morning and treated for the last minute stuff
Left 4 high value formula and diaper coupons at the grocery store with the product
Tried to be extra kind out shopping on black friday - helping with shopping, watching carts, letting people through the crowd easily, sharing ideas/deals/flyers, etc
Purchasing items for our Care Packages for the Military
Donating clothing and home stuff to Goodwill
Making dinner/dessert for planning meeting
Thanking a blogger that has really helped me out with her posts

Nothing really fancy, but things I might not have done without the challenge on my mind. I can hope I would have though. None of it took much time, effort, or money. I'm glad I've been a part of this.

I've also heard of things that members of our church have been doing for the challenge. This makes me really happy - I wasn't really sure many people would take the challenge on, thinking it was asking too much at an already busy time of year. However, they have. I've heard people talk about serving meals to the homeless, holding doors, taking biscuits to offices, caring for a friend's dog, doing extra housework, making meals for a family in need, and taking off work to spend more time with family. These are only the things I've actually heard about (and remembered). Exciting stuff. What kinds of generous things are you doing these days?
